LEGO 71021-1: Not-so-Collectible MiniFigurines : 20180416
So it happens again, LEGO has once again decided to screw with the assortment in CMF.
The last time they did that in series 10, a whole bunch of fan stopped collecting. Looks like they feel that its time for another ride.

The usual assortment has settled down into 7*3s, 6*4s, 3*5s.
This round we have 1*1s, 7*3s, 7*4s, 2*5s. It looks like one of the 5s was converted into a 4 to make the space for the single policeman. Which of the current 4s do you think was the previous 5?
To help you along, i include the feeling guides. Though i think if you want the complete set as 17 figures, its easier for you to just buy a carton to secure your police officer.
At this point of time, price for the police officer range from $45 to $50 on the secondary market. Gift greeting is selling the police officer at $20.90, but its out of stock.
One thing i really don't like is how resellers are trying to twist information to encourage sales.
16 Figurines isn't a complete set. 17 Figurines is the number of figurines to be considered as a full set.
Another reseller was making his point by saying that the policeman is an extra figurine like how it was in series 10.
Why? Then isn't the full set of series 10 suppose to have Mr. Gold? Actually no. On the carton box of series 10. 16 to collect is stated on the box. On series 18, 17 to collect is stated on the box.
Mr. Gold is a Chase figure. not meant as part of the set. but the classic policeman in this case is.
Lets go down to the hard numbers.
Set of 16 at Full Retail price = $104
Set of 16 at 10% discount = $93.6
Set of 16 at 20% discount = $83.2
Currently resellers are offering cartons at $305 and sets at $80. so how does the maths work?
You will get 3 set out of a carton, so that's $240. If you can sell the policeman at $50, you will be able to get $290 + 11 extra figures. (2 brickboy, 2 brickgirl, dragon, unicorn, spider, rocket, cake, flower, cowboy) which they are asking for ard $5 per fig in bundled deals. which is another $55.
So look at how you want to collect from your point of view. If you have no need to complete with policeman, feel free to just pick up a set of 16. Those are good figs while the policeman is high in value, it is the most plain. There was a time when i could have picked up the ORIGINAL VINTAGE CLASSIC POLICEMAN at less than a dollar.

LEGO Maths - GWP : 20180414
Yesterday was the launch of LCS GWP : Star Wars Anniversary Pod.
And as per usual, the same questions will be asked over:
1. Is it worth collecting?
2. Is it going to increase in value?
3. Is it worth the price?
4. Should i just buy the item off resellers straight?
1. I will always reply: If you never collect it, it is never worth collecting. In the end, its just plastic. not gold.
2. I will always reply: Its a toy, not a stock. If you just buying for value, you will be better off looking at other investment tool. In the end, its just plastic. not gold.
3. Here we will see how the maths works.
Most of the time, we can try getting LEGO sets at 20% off which is quite easy.
In this scenarios, the GWP needs to clock $100, which means you will need to get LEGO up to $120. (Note: the ideal number is $111; but for the sake of item selection and price tag, using $120 is easier to see the point.)
LCS : $120 = $108 + GWP
Others : $120 = $96
So the difference in price is the "value" of the GWP, in this case will be $12.
In future, when the sets you get for the GWP drops in price, you can consider that to be the value of the GWP. However, that is largely speculative.
4. Depending on how much the reseller is selling and your budget. Though the "value" of the GWP is $12 in this case, you will need to spend $108, not $12. Resellers are after a profit or to just bring up the discount of their sets whichever is higher. Hence, $24 which will bring the discount of thier sets to 30% is sort of reasonable. However, I do expect the offered price to be much higher.
