Thinking out loud... Anyone wants to do a meet up or a MOC showcase? I have space... Anyone wanna organise?

  • Damien Yee I am one of the owner but my team is empowered to make decisions for the place. So in order for them to grow, they will need to approach it professionally and access the merits of doing it as a joint project. The space is already being used for art exhibition and other social projects.

  • Xylvie Huang Xinying What will you be able to offer to the AFOL community? Understand of course that nothing comes free. But for an event as such to work, the organizer would definitely need to give something for it to work. I don't mean freebies, but what's the venue's USP over other more accessible venues etc?

  • Hansen Khoo Weighing in. Thanks for verbalising Damien Yee, it's always a good thing for the community to have a space to gather and share. As long as it's a win-win situation for all parties and everyone's objectives are transparent.

    I checked out your profile     and read up abit about Tuckshop & Recess, not super convenient but hey, it's in the East so all is good smile emoticon

    Maybe what you could do is organise a get together at your venue first? Set up an event page with time and date and send out some invites etc. That's how I do it for BrickBrunch! at least.

    This way, those interested can find out more and it won't spam the feed of those who aren't keen.

  • Hansen Khoo Okayyyy, so here's where and why Paul Chew raised flags. You're a business owner offering space for us, a LEGO community, to gather at - and this should theoretically result in increased business for your venue.

    Thing is, you don't strike me as being     an AFOL yourself and if you're counting on others to bring business to your establishment, where's your contribution to the community?

    In this case I see a lack of value in your proposition, considering that there are many other more accessible venues that we could do the same at.

    Like I mentioned earlier, it's gotta be a win-win scenario. Other than space, if we as a community hang out at your place to spend money on F&B, what can you bring to the table?

  • Leonard Goh Disclaimer: I don't know anyone here. Here's my viewpoint on this thread. Damian's value is that 50 people could show up and only 25 cups of coffee were sold, and the other 25 were cups of water at no charge. And Damian will not kick anyone out for the next 6 hours because he committed to reserve 10 tables for AFOLs. I think that' would be a value prop itself. I technically wouldn't give two hoots if Damian is someone that resembles or smells like an AFOL - it's not like someone is giving out licenses to define who and what is an AFOL at heart. So, Damian, do we get 6 hours and 10 tables and if no one buys anything you good? smile emoticon

  • Damien Yee As I said... I was thinking out loud and suggested something in the community to see if this has traction. I did not have a business plan or a value proposition beyond "hey, I have space wanna do something with it, let me know". And as I mentioned in the thread, though I am a owner, the place is centrally run by a team and we empower them to make the business decisions as part of our grooming process and thus we as owners do not mandate but gently nudge then along. As for moc... Yes.. Let me get that going, recently just finished home reno need some time. But here's a picture of my stash.

If he is shy to organise, then be it. What i can't understand is how a grown-up adult and a F&B owner with resources, to be shy in the 1st place to organise gathering events.
