MOCer - Freddy Tan

Name : Freddy Tan

Team : Titan Creations

Interests: Mechs

MOC Style: Random

Once, when Freddy came over to my place to pick up Mixels 5, he bought me dinner and we had a good long chat. cant really take you through the whole conversation, but here are a few points that I remember strongly.

  • When you MOC, don't wait to try. Try first and improve along the way.
  • Don't stop trying. You will never lose until the day you decided to stop fighting
  • It's ok that it's not perfect. Some MOCer give themselves too much stress over creating the perfect build and in the end, the stress and time wears him down and he gives up trying.
  • There is no such thing as the best style, only the style that suits you.
  • Never give away LEGO. The one that you give away, will always be the ones you need for your next MOC. Karma's a bitch.
Freddy's one of those rare MOCer who builds with whatever he has. How is that good or difficult?

Firstly, building with only whatever you have allows you to have a smaller budget.
Secondly, you only have to keep inventory for a few colours. If you are very colour oriented person, it works out even better. "I only work in black….And sometimes very, very dark gray." Some ppl might have heard this in the LEGO movie, but it is actually a poke at colour-oriented MOCer. ;)

Difficult? Man... I don't know how to begin. That's it. You wont know how to begin. This is something you really need to sit down and experience it. The moment you start looking for a specific part, YOU'RE OUT!!!

We discussed about how certain sets are. Exosuit, Hurricane Heist, etc. one important point that Freddy share about doing Mech MOC. Feets have to fan out at an angle. It helps to stabilize the build and make it look more natural.

Here's one of Freddy's LEGO Idea submission. Do support.

If you have the chance to run into him, though he don't look very talkative, he actually is. don't be afraid to approach him to ask for advice or just small talk.
